Hi Chris here.
We are getting fully stuck into calving. We have had about 50 calve so far out of 150. Most of them should of calved by the end of march with the rest in april. So we have a busy few weeks ahead of us. Although the weather has been on the cold side the last few weeks it has been dry. Which has been a blessing for the river to go down and the land to dry up a bit. It’s been another wet winter with the usual fields being underwater for a long period of time. The river is very quick to flood but very slow to go down, it would be helpful if the river wasn’t held back at lechlade. The rivers have been in full flood and the environment agency website says the river isn’t flooded……..
The cows have been out grazing for 2 weeks. They are just out in the day at the moment until growth rates improve and we can keep them out full time. We still have a good stock of silage in the clamp. So we can top up their diet with silage as well as grazed grass. Which is like rocket fuel for them in the spring. Some people say they notice a change in the taste of the milk when the cows start grazing again. Have you noticed a change?

In the vending machine we now have our cooperative organic herd butter back in the vending machine. We also have organic kefir which has been flying out. We still have farm tour dates available on our website if you're interested in seeing how the farm is run.
You may have seen it on social media. We have recently taken delivery of a new vending machine which will sell our local produce at Cotswold Lakes Brewery. Along with our smaller milk vending machine which you can purchase milk and milkshakes from there too. The vending machine is due to open on the last weekend of March.
